Choices of Life
We will be given many chances to make choices every moments of our life.
What is important ??
It is to know your consequences and make your choice wisely.
So what's the big deal about making choices??
When it comes to ice-cream do you choose Chocolate or Valina?
When it comes to choosing your lunch, is it chicken chop or chicken rice?
Well these daily choices doesn't have much of serious consequences except it taste different.
But in the Christain walk there are big consequences in our choices that we make.
It is so from the beginning with Adam and Eve.
They were given a job to take care of the garden of Eden.
God gave them free will to choose to do what they will, but God also gave them specific instructions about the two trees in the middle of the garden, that they shall not eat the fruit from these two trees, if they do they will surely die. They chose to be tempted, ate the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil and sin against God.
Choosing Eternal life or eternal separation is a choice that we make too.
To follow God is a choice that we make everyday, not just when you say the sinners prayer.
To choose to do what is right before God eyes is a choice.
Let's look at King David's life, in 1 samuel 24, when he made a choice to follow God's way, which shows that he is a God fearing man and a man that is after God's own heart before he was anointed as King:
At this point of time in David's life, after David had killed Goliath and he was more popular with the people of Israel than King Saul . King Saul was pursuing him and out to take David's life out of jealously. And David had been hiding from King Saul for a few years.
Read thru the passage below, and reflect.
1 Samuel 24
David Spares Saul's Life
1 After Saul returned from pursuing the Philistines, he was told, "David is in the Desert of En Gedi." 2 So Saul took three thousand chosen men from all Israel and set out to look for David and his men near the Crags of the Wild Goats.
3 He came to the sheep pens along the way; a cave was there, and Saul went in to relieve himself. David and his men were far back in the cave. 4 The men said, "This is the day the LORD spoke of when he said [a] to you, 'I will give your enemy into your hands for you to deal with as you wish.' " Then David crept up unnoticed and cut off a corner of Saul's robe.
5 Afterward, David was conscience-stricken for having cut off a corner of his robe. 6 He said to his men, "The LORD forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the LORD's anointed, or lift my hand against him; for he is the anointed of the LORD." 7 With these words David rebuked his men and did not allow them to attack Saul. And Saul left the cave and went his way.
If you were being pursue by your enemy for 2 years for something you did right, how would you have felt?
Some might feel angry and frastrated, isolated and abandoned, injustice and even thoughts of revange. I can understand all these feelings and emotions that a man can have under pressing circumstances.
So what did David choose the way he react? Isn't he just a man? I am sure he had emotions.
But what made the difference? He responded the right way. God's way.
Instead of taking King Saul's life, David spared his life, just because he feared God and know that is not right before God's eyes, and recognised it is God that had anointed Saul as King.
David chose grace rather than unforgiveness.
He chose mercy rather than revange.
He chose to please God rather than sin.
What would you choose?
Fear God or Sin during temptation?
Be crushed in the spirit when being pressured in life (O levels or work) or choose to place your burden before God.
Life is full of choices, know your consequences, make your choice wisely in the fear of God. I pray that with the help of Holy Spirit in our heart let us choose God and in our responses to life situation is God's way. Each time you make a choice to follow God, you will be more like Christ in character. Being sucessful is to be Christlike.
